Demystifying the Design Process
When you’ve been working in the design industry for a long time, it’s easy to forget that not everyone speaks the same design language. For many clients, that first meeting might be the very first time they’ve worked with a designer—or even thought much about design at all.
Add to that the buzzwords scattered across design websites, and it can be tricky to understand what a designer actually does and what you’re paying for.
While every project I take on is tailored to suit the client, most follow four clear steps: Discover, Design, Refine, and Deliver. Here’s what that looks like in practice:
01 — Discover
Every project starts with a conversation.
We dive into your goals, values, audience, and what makes your business unique. Whether we’re crafting a brand, a label, or a set of digital assets, this stage is about understanding your vision—so we can create design that’s not only beautiful, but purposeful.
02 — Design
Concepts grounded in strategy.
From logo development to packaging and beyond, I explore creative directions that bring your brand to life. This includes thoughtful choices around colour, typography, layout, and image style—each one tailored to your audience and story.
03 — Refine
Collaborative and considered.
Design is an iterative process. You’ll have the chance to review concepts, ask questions, and share feedback. Together, we’ll fine-tune the work until it feels just right: aligned, polished, and ready to go.
04 — Deliver
Everything you need, ready to roll.
You’ll receive a tidy package of final files suited to your needs—logos, print-ready artwork, digital assets, and more. Where relevant, I’ll include simple brand guidelines to help you keep things looking sharp and consistent as you grow.
